The Tortoise and the Hare - Determination

The Tortoise and the Hare

Each week this term we have been learning about one of
the new Rowandale School Values.
        Participation
Respect
 Integrity
          Determination
 Empathy
This week the focus was Determination!
Something that we are very good at in the Determined Dinosaurs. We learnt about the story of the Tortoise and the Hare to help us understand what it really means to show true determination.

We all want to be like the Tortoise in the story and never
give up on our goals even when it may seem impossible to
achieve them.
Today we had lots of fun making our own Tortoise's!
Have a look at how we did it...

First we coloured in fruit pots using green pastels.

Next we traced around different shapes to make a pattern for the shell.

Then we glued our shapes onto the shell.

Finally we traced around a circle and semicircle to make the head and legs for our Tortoise. Everyone did an amazing job and
not one person gave up!

Making Cookies!

On Thursday the Determined Dinosaurs were so excited to spend the day with Mrs Mulipola!
We learnt about the story Cookie Time for Snack.
First we coloured in and cut out shapes to make cookies. Then we described our cookies and made predictions about the story.
At the end of the day we got to decorate our own cookies with icing and sprinkles which was our favourite part!
Have a look at what we got up to...

Tongan Language Week!

This week the Determined Dinosaurs have been learning about the Tongan language and culture!
Our challenge for the week was to make our own
                                   Tapa Cloth.

We spent lots of time looking at different Tongan patterns for our Tapa cloth and learning about what they represent.

Take a look at what we got up to this week!

We were very excited about receiving our very own Tapa Cloth from one of our kind parents! We can't wait to proudly display it in our classroom!

The Dinosaurs were so excited for the Tongan Performance today. It was extra exciting because one of our class members Latai was one of the beautiful Tongan dancers!

Cook Island Language Week!

The Determined Dinosaurs had an amazing time learning more about the Cook Island Culture and language!

We decided to make our own Tivaevae to present at the Cook Island show case on Friday!

Take a look at what we did...
First we used a ruler and a pencil to draw
straight lines to create a border. Next we drew triangle patterns
around the outside of the border.
Then we designed our own Frangipani flower
designs in the middle of our Tivaevae.

Then we carefully coloured in our Tivaevae patterns using
bright coloured crayons.
Last we used black felt tip pens to trace over the
lines to help them stand out!

Finally we joined all of our patterns together to create our own Tivaevae!!
